About Kevin Scott Stapleton
After a successful 35-year career in wealth management, Kevin Scott Stapleton retired to Pebble Beach, California, where he had built his dream home. His career began in sales and marketing with IBM right out of university. Stapleton worked for IBM in Los Angeles for nearly five years before turning his attention to financial services with A.G. Edwards, where he built a successful money-management practice.
A.G. Edwards had a long history in the brokerage industry, where he worked for 21 years until the firm was purchased by Wachovia Securities and, within a year, bought by Wells Fargo. Stapleton worked for Wells Fargo for nine years at the organization’s Carmel, California office until he founded Stapleton Wealth Management (SWM), where he provided services for a portfolio of high-end clients for five years until deciding to retire and enjoy his beautiful home and the life he built in Pebble Beach.
A Staple in Wealth Management, Financial Advice
With Stapleton Wealth Management, he provides a comprehensive range of bespoke services to high and ultra-net-worth individuals, including investment management, financial planning, tax planning, risk management and insurance planning, trust and estate planning, and legacy planning. As a wealth manager, Stapleton helped grow and protect clients’ wealth while minimizing risk, setting and developing strategies to meet their financial goals, and managing investments based on their risk tolerance and time horizon.
He also developed financial plans that included strategies for retirement, college savings, and other major life events.
Stapleton used tax-efficient strategies to reduce the impact of local, state, and federal taxes over time for his clients. He also ensured clients were adequately protected against the various risks they faced, including having the right combination of health, disability, long-term care, life, umbrella, and property policies in place.
Many of his clients also turned to Stapleton’s experience and insight to create strategies to pass wealth to loved ones and other beneficiaries and to maximize the reach and impact of their charitable giving.
The Early Years: From Chicago to Heading Out West
Born August 30, 1959, he hails from Chicago, Illinois, where his love for baseball and his favorite team, the Chicago Cubs, was formed. As a young boy, he lived in Phoenix, Arizona, Sacramento, and Stockton, California. Stapleton attended high school in Stockton and San Joaquin Delta College, where he earned an AA degree.
He later attended the University of the Pacific in Stockton before heading south and transferring to the University of Southern California (USC), where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in Finance.
Retired Life: Kevin Stapleton Pebble Beach
He and his wife Linda have two boys: Grayson, age 27, and Christian, age 24. The couple enjoy their life in the coastal beach community of Pebble Beach, which is tucked between Pacific Grove and Carmel-by-the-Sea. Pebble Beach is renowned for its natural beauty, iconic views, and legendary golf courses. Home to the now-known AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the tournament began in 1937 in Santa Fe, California, and moved to Pebble Beach in 1946, where it’s taken place annually ever since.
A Passion for Travel, Cooking, and Baseball (The Cubs)
Stapleton’s hobbies include managing his own money, traveling, cooking, and playing golf at the many incredible courses in Pebble Beach. He also loves baseball and often makes the trek to Wrigley Field each year to watch his beloved Chicago Cubs World Series Championships in 2016, 1907, and 1908. In 2008, the Cubs became only the second team in Major League Baseball history to record 10,000 wins. The seventh-inning stretch is a longstanding ritual at Wrigley Field home games. From 1982 until 1997, renowned sports commentator Harry Caray led the singing of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” (he died in February 1998); presently, guest “conductors” guide the crowd. The Cubs have one of the most loyal fan bases and are among the most popular franchises in baseball, a fact Stapleton could attest to.
Baseball is not the only sport Stapleton follows. He also enjoys football, basketball, and hockey and is a massive fan of the Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls, and Chicago Blackhawks. You could say the Chicagoan native remains true to his roots.
Community Is Everything to Kevin Scott Stapleton
Kevin Stapleton of Pebble Beach loves his community, which is reflected in his service and volunteerism. He runs the IHELP program for his church, where members prepare special meals for men who have “turned the corner” and are looking for jobs and getting back into the fabric of society.
Kevin Stapleton Pebble Beach also devotes time to feeding people experiencing homelessness at a local park every Saturday. He is involved with Carmel Youth Baseball, coaching and managing local children. As a member of the Rotary Club of Carmel, a 501c3 nonprofit, Stapleton and his fellow members have a passion for service to others. They are dedicated to contributing to improving the community through monetary and charitable actions.
